Making unique versions of a video means creating several versions of one video that differ from each other in picture, sound and file data but convey the same meaning to the viewer. ClipClone makes such versions in batches on its own servers and automatically checks every copy for how much it differs from the source and from the other copies.
Why make several versions of one video
One successful video is often needed in several places at once: in different brand accounts, on the social media of branches, on partner channels. If you publish the same file everywhere, platforms see a repeat: they filter out identical videos, and the copies perform worse than the original.
A separate version for each post solves this without new shoots or manual editing:
- Several accounts and social networks. Each account gets its own version of the video, not a copy of one file.
- Regular posting. One recorded video becomes a stock of versions for weeks ahead.
- Agencies and teams. Hundreds of versions for different clients and platforms are made in one run, not by hand.
The platform decides what is shown in the feed: unique versions change the file but do not guarantee reach. The video itself still has the biggest effect on views.
What changes in each version
Each copy is built from a random set of changes. The set and the strength of the changes are defined by the preset.
| What changes | How exactly | Noticeable to the viewer? |
|---|---|---|
| Frame | edge cropping, scale, micro-rotation, slight frame movement | barely |
| Color and noise | color correction, noise texture | barely |
| Speed | video tempo, variable speed | barely |
| Sound | pitch within ±1.5% or tempo without distortion | no |
| File data | metadata, encoding parameters, file hash | no |
How we check that the versions are really different
After it is built, each copy is compared with the source and with 100 neighboring copies from the same run. The service measures frame similarity (SSIM), digital frame fingerprints (pHash and PDQ) and picture quality (PSNR). A copy that turns out too similar to the source or to another copy fails the check, and this is visible in the project report.
Metrics and thresholds are covered in detail in the guide “How to check that video copies differ”. What each metric means is explained in the glossary “SSIM, pHash, dHash, PDQ and PSNR in plain words”.
Presets: how strongly to change the video
| Preset | What it does | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | light color correction, edge cropping, micro-rotation, noise texture; sound: pitch ±1.5% | when the video must look like the original |
| Optimal (recommended) | tuned by measurements: stronger noise and frame movement, variable speed; the sound changes only in tempo | for most tasks |
| Strong | maximum changes: color filter, animated overlay on top of the frame, codec mix | when you need maximum difference and the changes may be noticeable |
| Strong + vertical | like “Strong”, plus each video is padded to 9:16 with a random background | for horizontal videos published in vertical feeds |
Check thresholds for each preset and tips on choosing one are in the guide “Presets for unique video versions”; vertical feeds are covered in the guide “Unique video versions for Reels, Shorts, TikTok and VK Clips”.
You can save your own settings as a preset and run them in one click.
How to make versions of a video in ClipClone
- Upload videos. Up to 10 videos per run in MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM or M4V format, or as one ZIP archive, up to 2 GB per upload.
- Choose the number of versions. From 1 to 1,000 copies of each video.
- Choose a preset or your own saved settings.
- Start processing. It runs on ClipClone servers: you don't need to keep your computer on, and progress is visible in the browser.
- Download the result. You can compare each copy with the source, each copy shows its check mark, and all copies can be downloaded as one archive.
For a trial, you get 5 free minutes after your first login — about 10 versions of a 30-second video. How minutes are counted is explained in the guide “How much unique video versions cost”.
A comparison with manual editing and desktop software is in the guide “How to make many versions of one video”. All plans are on the page “ClipClone plans”, and answers to common questions are on the page “FAQ”.
Frequently asked questions
Will viewers notice the changes?
In the “Standard” and “Optimal” presets the changes are light: the video looks and sounds like the original. The “Strong” preset adds a color filter and an animated overlay on top of the frame, which can be noticed.
Does the content of the video change?
No. The story, on-screen text, voice and music stay the same. What changes are the technical parameters of the picture, sound and file.
How many versions can be made from one video?
Up to 1,000 copies of each video per run. Each copy is checked for difference from the source and from neighboring copies.
Do I need a powerful computer?
No. All processing runs on ClipClone servers; you only need a browser.
