You can make many versions of one video in three ways: by hand in a video editor, with software on your own computer or in a cloud service. The methods differ in how much time each version takes, whether the copies are checked for difference from each other and what your computer is busy with while processing runs. Below is a comparison of the methods and step-by-step instructions for ClipClone.
Why do you need different versions of one video?
Different versions are needed when one video is published many times: in several brand accounts, on the social media of branches, on different platforms. A separate version for each post is not a copy of one file but a video with the same meaning and a different picture, sound and file data.
What unique video versions are and what changes in them is covered in the guide “Unique video versions: what they are and how they work”. The platform decides what is shown in the feed: versions change the file but do not guarantee reach.
What are the ways to make versions of a video?
Versions are made by hand, with software on a computer or in a cloud service. The more versions you need, the more batch processing and automatic checks matter: by hand it is easy to end up with two nearly identical copies and not notice it.
By hand in a video editor
Each version is put together separately: you change the framing, color, speed and sound and export a new file. This works when you need only a few versions and want to control every frame. The downsides are the time spent on each version and checking differences only by eye.
With software on your computer
The software applies changes to the video in a batch, but processing runs on your computer: the speed depends on its power, and the computer is busy while exporting. Whether the copies are checked for difference depends on the software.
In a cloud service
The video is uploaded to a server and the versions are built there; you only need a browser. In ClipClone, after it is built, each copy is automatically compared with the source and with neighboring copies, and each copy shows its check mark.
How do the methods differ?
| By hand in an editor | Software on your computer | ClipClone cloud service | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time for versions | each version is edited and exported separately | versions are built in a batch; speed depends on the computer | versions are built in a batch on servers |
| Difference check | by eye | depends on the software | automatic for every copy: SSIM, pHash, dHash, PDQ, PSNR |
| Load on your computer | the computer is busy with every export | the computer is busy while processing runs | no load: after the upload you can close the page |
| Volume at once | one version at a time | a batch | up to 1,000 copies of each video, up to 10 videos per run |
| What you pay for | editing time | the software and computer time | output minutes: from 2,990 ₽ per month for 750 minutes, 5 minutes for a trial |
How do you make versions of a video in ClipClone step by step?
In ClipClone, versions are made on the “Create” screen in one line: “Take [videos], make [N] copies of each and change them [preset]”. The whole process takes a few actions in the browser.
- Log in to the site with Telegram, Google or a code sent to your email. On your first login you get 5 free minutes — about 10 copies of a 30-second video.
- Choose videos or drag files onto the page: up to 10 videos per run, MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, M4V or a ZIP archive, up to 2 GB per upload.
- Set the number of copies — from 1 to 1,000 of each video.
- Choose a preset. If you are not sure, leave “Optimal”. For a horizontal video that you need in a vertical feed, “Strong + vertical” fits.
- Click “Make N copies”. Before that, you can see how many minutes the run needs. You can click it even while the videos are still uploading: processing will start after the upload.
- Open the project. It shows the processing progress, and each copy has a check mark and its metrics.
- Download the copies: all unique ones as one ZIP archive or only the ones you need.
If some copies failed the check, click “Make N more copies” on the project page — the service will make replacements. If there are many such copies, choose a stronger preset: how the presets differ is explained in the guide “Presets for unique video versions”.
How much does it cost?
You pay for output minutes — the total duration of the copies created. A 30-second video in 20 copies is 10 output minutes. For a trial, you get 5 free minutes once after your first login; paid plans start from 2,990 ₽ per month for 750 minutes.
All plans are on the page “ClipClone plans”; calculation examples are in the guide “How much unique video versions cost”.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make versions from my phone?
Yes. The service works in a mobile browser: upload a video, choose the number of copies and a preset. Processing runs on servers, so the power of the phone does not matter.
Will the versions be similar to each other?
The changes in each copy are random, and the check compares each copy with 100 neighboring copies in the project. A copy that nearly matched another one gets the mark “Too similar to another copy” and does not go into the archive of unique copies.
How long does processing take?
It depends on the length of the videos, the number of copies and server load. Processing progress is visible on the project page, and you don't need to wait at your computer: after the videos are uploaded you can close the page.
Does the content of the video change?
No. The story, on-screen text, voice and music stay the same. What changes are the technical parameters of the picture, sound and file.
